That Gory Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Audiences

Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever viewed, no other has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of the explicitly bloody and deeply subversive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, somber and frequently brutal world that included some tiny , forlorn twinges of optimism.

While The Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a desire to push animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was actually a try to communicate a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”

That message is expressed by means of a squad of vividly colored bears , openly modeled after a popular line of lovable figures.

Being raised in a culture centered on aggression and the military-industrial complex, many of the bears are fixated on slaughtering unicorns, thanks to a sacred text that claims the bears they previously were masters of the woodland, until the unicorns forced them out.

Others haven’t fully accepted the brainwashing, and prefer to try out drugs or fornicate outdoors.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters have visible sexual organs and obvious urges.

For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the conflict with unicorns turns into a route to control — and especially to authority over his more tender, kinder brother Tubby.

This bear behaves aggressively and an apparent sociopath , and while terror overcomes his unit and claims his comrades one by one, he seizes increasingly influence on his own behalf, through ever more violent, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, the unicorns are experiencing their own horror, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.

“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the director commented. “But then it evolves into a more serious and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it’s a scary feature.”

Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical films from a renowned animator, which find a wicked pleasure in allowing animated figures swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.

Subsequently it becomes closer to a more grim film from that director, featuring progressively visual gore and a tangible link to genuine tragedy of conflict.

Ultimately, it is a complete theatrical horror carnage.

The horror that makes the film a Halloween-friendly movie starts much sooner than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who wish to see something they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and who can handle a plot which delivers no restraint.

View it in a dark room without any distractions, and the conclusion will crawl deep within you and take up residence there.
