Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Grave Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
