Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
